currently infatuated with
twilight by Stephanie Meyer

From the back cover: About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him – and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be- that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.
After hearing many varitions of “You have to read this book Mom”, “Have you started it yet?”, and “You’re going to love this book!” from my daughter for the last few months, I finally picked up twilight and when I did, I wondered why I had possibly taken so long to do so. I loved this book! I am eager to read the next 2 books in the series.
What I liked:
- I read to escape, to take a break, from the chaos, from the chaos around me. This book captured my imagination! I really love it when a book allows my suspension of disbelief to take full effect.
- When it begins, you are dropped right into the story. I liked it in this case: having to wait to learn the answers to my immediate questions and find hints here and there to exactly what was going on, added to the suspense and enjoyment. It felt like I had become involved with the story.
- The story drew me in with the turn of every page. I never ever ever wanted to put it down and in fact, I stayed up waaaayyyy too late a few nights just to get to the end of a chapter. The suspense was tantalizing. There were a few nights that I actually dreamed about the book and the characters in it. I felt like such a little kid on those mornings ;O)
- The characters seem awfully realistic to me. I know one of them is a vampire but what I mean is that they stay true to themselves and do not do things that are… well, out of character for them. One of the main characters, Bella, is stubborn, impulsive, reckless, impossible, irresponsible and self centered at times. She is also only 16 which makes her both forgivable and lovable at the same time.
- It’s a love story but it’s not. It’s a scary story but it’s not. It is instead an amazing combination of the two.
- It is a story that both young and older adults can enjoy. (Notice I didn’t say kids – it is a love story – a teenage love story – it’s clean but I would not recommend it for those under age 13)
I don’t want to say too much about this book for the fear of giving anything away. What I liked most about reading this book was the fact that my daughter had read it and enjoyed it so much. It was a really easy and fun way for the two of us to connect. I feel like I learned something about her in reading this book. It was interesting to figure out the reasons she loves this story so much. We had many conversations about it sitting cross legged on the floor of her bedroom giggling and “Oh my gosh!”-ing about it. She however is totally unfair and wouldn’t even give me one little hint about what happens next! *pouting*
If you up for some good suspense with romance and mystery thrown in, I highly recommend this book. For me, it is a 5 out of 5.

I love that you connected with your daughter over this book! That is awesome.
It’s neat that you could connect with your daughter about this book. I didn’t particularly like Twilight or New Moon, but Eclipse was ok. I hate Bella. But, I’ve found that people either love or hate these books. There’s very little in between. I do think a lot of people end up reading them because of their daughters and it gives them something to bond over. It’s cool that you could do that with your daughter.
My little sister, who is 15, keeps telling me that I need to read this book. It IS on my Spring Reading thing list. I’ve found that she’s pretty good at picking out books that I’ll enjoy.
