Weight Watchers Wednesday 9/24/08
So I’ve been using Weight Watchers online for the last 6 weeks and I have lost 4 pounds in that time. I know it’s not the kind of number most people would jump up and down for but I am really happy about it. I could have lost more weight if I had put more effort in. I really have not been exercising at all and I know that if I just got off my rear for a 15 minute walk each day I would lose a lot more…..I’m working on that. For now, I have been focusing on the foods I choose to eat and monitoring my portion sizes.
This has been a bit of a struggle but it has also been very eye opening for me. I chose the flex plan which gives me a daily point allowance as well as a extra amount of points each week to use for treats or special occasions. To learn how many points some food items take up has made me eat less of it or on some occasions even decide not to eat it.
My other struggle is in the foods I cook. I love to cook and I love to use real butter and lots and lots of cheese. Neither of these ingredients fit into my new low calorie/low fat lifestyle. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been playing around with the recipe builder on WW and have tweaked some of my favorite recipes to give me a lower point value without sacrificing too much of the taste.
With ALL of that said, welcome to my first edition of Weight Watchers Wednesday. I plan to share a bit of my journey over the last week and a revamped low in points (and therefore calories and fat) recipe with you.
Up first this recipe for Pasta Carbonara from one of my favorite sites, The Pioneer Woman. According to the recipe it serves 4 and according to the WW recipe buider, this dish serves of 28 points per serving - YIKES! thats more than my daily point allowance and it is only supposed to be one meal.
With a few simple tweaks, my version of the recipe serves up 8 properly sized portions and only 7 points per serving.
