reasons i love my daughter
i was terrified to have a daughter. i don’t know why but i suspect it had something to do with the fact that i was such a brat growing up and i was scared that pay back was due :o) i secretly wished for a boy. however, the minute i laid eyes on her i was completely in love. she is amazing and amazes me every day. i love in all ways and here are some of the reasons why
1) her smile lights up her whole face and mine
2) when it is time for her to go to bed, she has a way of keeping jerr and i talking - sometimes for up to an hour!! sneaky little girl. these are some of the times i cherish the most
3) tonight we were running behind schedule for dinner and she just walked into the kitchen and started helping serve without being asked (she does this quite often)
4) when she senses my sadness or frustration, she comes to give me a hug. a real hug - a sincere hug not just a one arm thing or not just in passing. it always comes with and ‘i love you mom’
5) she is 13 and still holds my hand in public. it makes me feel loved
6) she went walking with me today and has offered to do that with me everyday even if it means getting up early. she knows that i am not a big fan of excercise (yet) because i get embarrassed about how out of shape i am. she does not make me feel bad but is very encouraging and very good at holding me accountable. it is very sweet and kind of her to care about me so much and i love that she is so supportive!
7) she is an avid reader!!! my little book worm can go through 4 or 5 books a week EASY. i love her fascination with the written word and i love being able to discuss books with her that i have read myself growing up
she is such a mirror to me of me. she shows me in so many ways the mistakes i make and the ways in which i need to make changes or improvements in my own behavior.
9) she makes THE BEST macaroni and cheese :O)
10) she is always eager to please and tries hard. she is willing to be honest about the areas she needs to work on - that is hard to do. i am so happy she is learning this skill at an early age.
11) she hugs and kisses her brother’s goodnight each and every night
12) she gives piggy back rides to the littlest monkey - it’s awfully sweet and she won’t be able to do it that much longer
13) she is so creative - always drawing and rearranging her room. she is currently trying to convince me to repaint the living room and dining room
14) about once each week, she measures how close she is to being the same height as me. i know one day she will be eye to eye with me and then most likely even taller but in the mean time, i will enjoy her eagerness to do so and treasure each day she has not yet done it.
15) she makes me give her real hugs - you know the kind where you use both your arms. i never realize how often i only give one armed hugs but she reminds. most often it is because i have something in my hand so she asks very nicely for me to put it down because she wants a hug.
16) her hugs are the best. i aspire to be a better hugger because of them
17) she’ll roll her eyes and sigh and stomp out of the room on me fairly regularly now but when she is away, she calls often or emails me just to say hi or share something interesting and to tell me she loves me. yup - she’s a lovey that one.
18) while at the fair this weekend, she and her brothers went on a small rollercoaster. the little monkey had never been on one before and got scared once on the ride. as they went up the first hill, she leaned over and gave him a reassuring kiss on the cheek. at the end of the ride she gave him a big hug. how great that she cares for her brother’s that way
