reasons i love my son (the big one)
my oldest son is also the middle child and it seems that these days he struggles with that position more than he has in the past. he is the oldest boy but not the oldest child so most things he does, his sister has already done (and she gets attention because she is the only girl). he is also not the youngest and i am guilty of spoiling ‘the baby’ i am working on that by recognizing this amazing boy for who he is on his own. there are lots of reasons i love him, here are some of them:
1) he is very affectionate - always has a hug or kiss for any member of our family. in fact he gave his sister a hug when he saw her at school yesterday….that’s right, he hugs his sister and he does it in public.
2) when his younger brother has a bad dream he will either walk him down the hall to my room or just invite him to sleep in his bed. he apparently has an amazing talent of scaring the monsters under the bed away!
3) yesterday, i was running late getting all of us out the door and to school. i was so frazzled and having trouble finding and remembering all of the little things i needed for the day (like my paper that i needed to turn in). he got the car keys, loaded himself and his siblings in and came back inside to ask “mom, is there anything i can help you with?” i stopped dead in my tracks and gave him a huge hug. that was so much better than “MO-OM we’re going to be late!!!!!” (he has been doing his a lot lately)
4) he has the best giggle in the whole world. when he makes a somewhat inappropriate remark or joke (what is it with boys and their fascination for farts?) he is so proud of himself and just giggles and giggles at his own joke. it’s contagious and i am unable to remain unamused.
5) he has the messy gene firmly implanted in his DNA. you would think that walking into the obstacle course that he calls his room would frustrate me constantly (it does occassionally) but for the most part, it just amuses me. i have a picture which proves he inherited it from me….it’s not his fault!
6) i got a big ol’ hug from this monkey tonight even after he spent over an hour complaining about how mean and unfair i am. i wish i had that kind of grace and forgiveness for others. he is really something special!
7) he has been dancing - well maybe it’s more like wiggling- around the house on a continuous basis. his new favoite move? ” waddle waddle squat squat!” it’s really hard to explain but if you put a bit of imagination into it, you just might be able to do the dance yourself. the title is fairly self explanatory…yup that’s it! you’ve got it!
this past year at his new school, this kid has just come to life. he dives right into all of the material with a passion that is completely impressive. watching his mind work in new ways is fascinating. it makes his mama proud
9) he found a toy in our front yard this after noon and immediately went to return it to the owner. one of the neighbors suggeste they ‘keep’ it and ‘play with it just for a little bit’ but he said no and returned it. i love his honesty and integrity.
